QUALIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful applicant must hold at least a recognised Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Physics.
- While not mandatory, a post-graduate qualification relevant to medical physics would be well regarded.
- The successful applicant must either hold or make significant progress within 12 months of appointment towards obtaining the following:
- Queensland radiation use licence.
- Queensland radiation accreditation certificate.
- A ‘C’ class drivers licence is required, and you will be required to drive Queensland Health vehicles as part of general duties.
- Travel, Shift Rostering and On-call requirements: Biomedical Technology Services (BTS) is committed to providing appropriate services at all times to health facilities throughout the state, consequently staff may (following consultation) be required to transfer to another work location, participate in 24 hour shift arrangements, on-call and weekend rosters, occasional overtime, and to travel throughout Queensland for periods of up to approximately two weeks at a time.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.

Responsibilities:
You will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values.
- Participate in quality control programs and radiation protection programs with minimal supervision for all diagnostic imaging modalities to ensure optimum performance and safe radiation levels. These modalities may include general x-ray, computed radiography (CR), digital radiography (DR), dental x-ray, fluoroscopy and interventional x-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, ultrasonography and nuclear medicine technology, including positron emission tomography (PET).
- Assist in the purchase of diagnostic imaging and associated systems for Queensland Health. This assistance may include:
- Preparing technical specifications.
- Undertaking technical and performance assessments of equipment.
- Evaluating technical aspects of tender responses, including preparation of reports to be included in evaluation analyses.
- Acceptance testing new equipment to ensure compliance with specifications and relevant safety standards prior to clinical use.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and scientific research and development under broad supervision (decreasing as experience grows), primarily in the areas of new or improved diagnostic imaging techniques and radiation safety associated with clinical requirements.
- Produce scientific reports for approval prior to internal and external publication.
- Enrol and participate in professional development activities associated with the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) Training, Education and Assessment Program (TEAP) when an institutional accredited position is available.
- Provide input in the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within the work unit.
