Description:

DETAILS

  • Department: Health Information Management Operations
  • Schedule: PRN (not scheduled to work a specified number of hours per pay); Rotating schedule - Monday-Friday position with a rotating on-call week every 4th week. Flexible shift time but days 8-4 is typical.
  • Facility: Brighton Center for Recovery
  • Location: Brighton, MI
  • Compensation: 15.50 - 16.50 per hour

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • College course work including medical terminology preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in a healthcare setting required.
  • Experience with patient medical records and release of protected health Information preferred.

Responsibilities:

Responsibility consist of performing all medical record functions to facilitate medical record management; release of protected health information, and completion of benefit and disability forms.

  • Identify validity of incoming requests for release of information and accurately process request when applicable.
  • Assist patient with completing, processing and filing benefit/disability/leave documents per employer/insurer requirements.
  • Accurately file and retrieve medical records in paper and electronic format.
  • Assure that all patient-identifiable health information is protected and kept confidential and private per regulatory, accreditation and legal standards.
  • Communicate record completion status to the Medical/Professional and Counseling staff by producing and distributing weekly deficiency reports.
  • Accurately maintain records of correspondence related to all releases of patient-identifiable health information.
  • Protect all medical record information from loss, defacing, or destruction during the hospital s retention period.
  • Assist associates from clinical departments requiring access to medical record information.
  • Abstract medical records to identify documentation deficiencies and enters information into computer for reporting and managing record completion status.
  • Compose and type correspondence, procedures, reports and other documents utilizing Microsoft Word.
  • Efficiently and effectively research web-based resources to obtain information required to perform departmental functions.
  • Abstract data and participate in facility and departmental quality improvement activities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Model Service Excellence principles in all interactions with patients, visitors and staff.
  • Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates flexibility, dependability and punctuality.
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures at all times.

  • Typing skill of forty-five words per minute.
  • Must be fluent with computer software programs.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively utilize web-based resources.
  • Demonstrate competency with Microsoft Word.
  • Physical ability, with or without accommodations, to finger, grasp, lift, pull, reach, complete repetitive movements, stand, stoop.
  • Physical ability to lift weight in excess from 11 to 24 lbs.
  • Sensory and communicative activities, with or without accommodation, to hear, see, and speak.
