Rate of Pay: $45-$53 per hour + superannuation (depending on years of experience - Grade 2, Years 1-5)

How you will make an impact
Cabrini Pathology is a multidisciplinary pathology laboratory operating 24/7 and provides a quality service for the rapid diagnosis of disease and subsequent patient monitoring. As a Medical Scientist Grade 2 (Microbiology) at Cabrini you will be responsible for the processing and authorisation of Pathology tests across all sections of the Microbiology lab in a professional and timely manner. You will also have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities in relation to supervision and training, development of staff skills and the day to day management of the Microbiology department in the absence of the senior scientist.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the monitoring of work across the Microbiology lab and prioritising testing to keep work lists up to date and maintaining relevant turn around times
- Processing specimens according to departmental procedures and ensuring that correct sample identification has been completed
- Performing calibrations and testing, either on analysers or manually to obtain results for reporting
- Interpreting and authorising results and taking appropriate action with abnormal/urgent results
- Performing internal and external quality control procedures and taking appropriate action if controls are out of range
- Monitoring usage of department resources and equipment to maintain efficient use of resources and adequate supply of stocks
- Maintaining competency in Microbiology techniques and advancements consistent with training to assist in the functioning of a dedicated department
- Participating in a modern 24/7 pathology service to meet the needs of Cabrini Health, its clients and partners
About you
Along with a demonstrated team, quality and customer service focus, you will also have the following:
- Bachelor of Applied Science (MLS) or equivalent
- Membership of AIMS (desirable)
- High level of knowledge of pathology testing requirements and technical skill
- Advanced level of understanding of quality control and quality assurance programs
- Relevant experience in a Microbiology laboratory
- Capability to investigate problems with assays and equipment to a high level to ensure analytical errors are detected and address promptly and reported
- Understanding of NATA and ISO151189 quality system requirements
- Ability to prioritise work and perform duties without supervision
- Ability to train and supervise staff
- Well developed interpersonal skills and a professional approach
