Description:

The Dermatology Department is based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and provides services to Sheffield and the wider South Yorkshire region. Last year approximately 40,000 patients attended the Department (around 10% of patients had suspected skin cancers, requiring a first appointment within 14 days of referral). The Department has access to two Mohs surgeons, three in-house theatres, space in the Trust’s new Minor Operation Procedure Suite (MOPS), a phototherapy suite and specialists in the identification and management of contact dermatitis, acne and psoriasis. Our consultants, specialist doctors and nurses carry out over 2,700 surgeries a year. The Department provides clinical support to the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and works closely with doctors and nurses in Primary Care, who have specialist interest in dermatology, to deliver minor skin surgery services in the community.
In conjunction with the medical secretaries, support the Consultants, Nurse Specialists and the wider department by undertaking a range of support secretarial duties.
Provide cover for medical secretaries during their absence, including telephone messages, taking minutes of meetings and undertaking any urgent typing for the Consultants and the wider clinical team ensuring clinicians instructions are referred to the medical secretary.
Using G2 to type patient letters relating to clinic appointments, discharge summaries, tests etc from longhand or verbal dictation to meet Trust Standards.
To support the medical secretary team by having regular telephone contact with patients and other healthcare professionals internally and externally and occasionally face to face.
Take accurate messages related to Consultant / secretary regarding patient enquiries.
Ability to use range of Microsoft Office packages and hospital patient systems i.e Lorenzo.
Comply with Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records Act and related Acts, health and safety procedures and confidentiality.
