QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor s Degree in Medical Technology, clinical laboratory science or similar degree in chemistry or biology with required semester hours and one year of training in a clinical laboratory as per CLIA and NJ DOH regulations.
Preferred:
- American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
- Current experience chemistry, hematology, microbiology or blood bank

Responsibilities:
- Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluids
- The Medical Technologist process and receives samples of blood, urine and body fluids
- Performs and interprets clinical laboratory test, obtaining data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease
- Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures
- Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests
- Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements and performs quality control; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
- The Medical Technologist function independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records all data obtained in the computer and/or log book
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
- Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
