JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Privacy Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out duties to ensure the CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) is in compliance with the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). This includes:
- Accepting, screening, and responding to requests for personal health information maintained in CCMB health records in accordance with approved policies and statutory legislation. This will require working closely with physicians, other health care disciplines, patients, lawyers, and insurance companies wanting access to health records
- Handle subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants related to requests for information, prepares medical records for court and may attend court to testify in the capacity of custodian of the medical record.
- Investigating potential and confirmed privacy breaches.
- Auditing records of user activity for all systems maintained by CCMB that contain personal health information.
- Other duties and functions as assigned to support compliance with PHIA.
EDUCATION
Post secondary diploma/certificate in Health Information Management from an accredited educational institution required
EXPERIENCE
- 2 years experience handling and releasing personal health information, including the ability to critically think and determine what information can be disclosed.
- In depth knowledge of the Personal Health Information Act preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of experience may be considered
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills required.
- Advanced Microsoft Office Skills
