JOB SUMMARY
The Membership Operations Specialist will support the Membership team by expanding bandwidth for key projects and initiatives. The candidate should be entrepreneurial, a self-starter who thrives in team environments and a problem-solver who takes initiative. They should also be comfortable supporting the execution of executive-level events, managing competing priorities, and have a strong attention to detail.
The Membership team works across API, regularly interfacing with Policy, Economics and Regulatory Affairs, Global Industry Services, Government Affairs, and Communications, to drive value for our members and increase collaboration across the organization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to learn about the natural gas and oil industry, interest in public policy and advocacy campaigns and other membership projects, and a keen ability to contribute to organizational-wide goals through project ownership and relationship-building.
API and its nearly 600 members represent all segments of America’s natural gas and oil industry, which supports more than 11 million U.S. jobs and is backed by a growing grassroots movement of millions of Americans.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 0-3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant area, or other related field equivalent work experience.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks; meet deadlines; work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision; and handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Willingness to build and cultivate relationships and to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to solve problems logically and quickly, using good judgement or escalating issues when appropriate.
- Ability to research and aggregate information accurately from a variety of sources.
- Strong writing capabilities and understanding of differentiated messages for audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Interest in the U.S. natural gas and oil industry and/or the operations of trade associations a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
- Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc.
- Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
- Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion

Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the planning, preparation and execution of executive-level events, including API Board and Executive Committee meetings.
- Provide project management for cross-organizational activities such as API’s All-Hands activities, educational webinars for members and industry professionals, and external events as needed.
- Create and/or assist with development and modification of presentation materials, spreadsheets, and informational materials.
- Provide support to maintenance of API membership records.
- Support API membership process, including process improvements, life-cycle communications, and onboarding and retention campaigns.
- Play a role in the team’s cross-organizational collaboration by providing support to team members.
