Description:
Join YW Calgary as a Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor supporting the women in our Transitional Housing program. This role delivers crisis intervention and counselling to the women in our program. You will also deliver therapeutic and prevention groups based on evidence-based practices. This role focuses on addressing addictions and mental health issues to empower individuals to overcome challenges and achieve stability. EXPERIENCE
Preferred
- 2 - 3 years: working in a clinical counselling setting
EDUCATION
Required
- Master’s degree or better in Social Work or related field
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Provide regular supportive one-on-one counselling sessions for women in the Transitional Housing Program, addressing their diverse needs across all areas of mental health and addiction
- Utilize therapeutic techniques to help women identify and process emotions, develop coping strategies, and work towards individualized goals
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to assess progress and ensure a cohesive approach to care
- Plan and lead group therapy sessions tailored for women, fostering a safe and supportive environment for open discussion
- Design group activities that promote skill development, peer support and community building among participants
- Provide immediate support and intervention to women in crisis, utilizing de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed principles and safety planning
- Maintain and ensure compliance of accurate and confidential records for each woman, documenting progress, treatment interventions and communication with other team members as per policies and regulatory standards
- Facilitate both preventative and treatment group programs that are aligned with the YW Practice Framework
- Develop and evaluate treatment plans and therapeutic progress
- Work collaboratively with service providers and be aware of new and existing resources in the community in Calgary in order to support client goals
