Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

As a Mental Health Associate, you will function as a care partner with the Registered Nurse to provide nursing care to a diagnostically/developmentally specific patient population. Under the Registered Nurse’s supervision, the MHA will provide therapeutic interventions and treatments. The MHA may be responsible for unit support activities and clerical/administrative functions as directed.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • BA/BS degree in a psychology related field
  • Or 5 years of related experience in a psychiatric service setting
  • BLS Certification through American Heart Association
  • Must successfully complete Monmouth Medical Center clinical training orientation
  • Annual BEST certification

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a psychiatric service setting

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with procedures, examinations and consults etc., under the supervision of the RN
  • Assist with admissions, discharge and/or transfer procedures
  • Collecting specimens (urine, blood, throat cultures, etc.)
  • Maintains ongoing observation of patients throughout the shift and reports change to the licensed staff member responsible
  • Obtaining patient vital signs, weights and I&Os
  • Patient intake (demographics and history)
  • Performs nursing activities under the supervision of the RN
  • Supervising/assisting patients with activities of daily living, encouraging appropriate behaviors
  • Participates in treatment team and related care plan updates.
  • Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service
