Description
Support the collection, analysis, harmonization, and registration of metadata into the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Cancer Data Standards Repository (caDSR), an ISO/IEC 11179 metadata registry. Develop common data elements (CDEs) and standards supporting the ImmunOncology Data Commons (IODC).Support development of business rules, and best practices for metadata curation, including managing review and approval through a consensus process with work groups of cancer researchers. Requires ability to work with experts in medical terminology, health data standards (FDA, HL7, CDC, CDISC), and clinical data management, as well as database designers. May also involve support for the development of data standards for NCI cancer research (clinical trials and bioinformatics) by participation in work group meetings on standards development and data harmonization.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of experience. May accept additional years of experience in lieu of a degree. Prefer education or experience in medical or health-related field.
- Data analysis experience in a health-related, medical research, or life science field.
- Must have experience in one or more of the following: systems analysis, data integration, conceptual data modeling or metadata creation.
- Must have strong written, verbal, listening and communication skills.
- Must have the ability to perform detailed analysis of information requirements and to assist users and other stakeholders to identify and clarify data definitions and business rules.
- Must have understanding of enterprise information management principles.Desired Skills:
- Knowledge and understanding of the fields of health care, clinical trials, medical research, and/or bioinformatics.
- Knowledge of metadata standards, health data standards and data governance.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, classification systems, taxonomies, and coding schemes.
- Understanding of commercial clinical trials management tools such as Medidata Rave, C3D, OnCore or Velos.
- Group facilitation skills including negotiation and consensus building.
Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Responsibilities:
- Analyze current state of data being collected
- Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand future data needs
- Research existing Common Data Elements (CDEs) to be reused. This will ensure alignment with other data commons in the NCI data ecosystems and the broader cancer research community.
- Work with SMEs to build consensus regarding CDE reuse
- Develop CDEs within the caDSR
- Review CDEs with IODC SMEs and refine as needed
- Assist submitters with data element mapping as needed
The project is headquartered at the SAIC office in Reston, VA. This is a 100% Remote position; however, there may be occasional travel required.
