QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCES:

  • Previous laboratory experience is essential
  • A diploma in laboratory practice or a degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline is desirable
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook is essential
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Responsibilities:

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Nyrstar Port Pirie are seeking a Metallurgical Technician to join the on-site Laboratory team.
Working closely with Plant Metallurgists, you are responsible for undertaking laboratory scale test work to trouble-shoot plant issues, assist with site growth projects and record and report accurate data and observations.
Ideally coupled with a tertiary background, you will have excellent laboratory working knowledge to understand various metallurgical tests, how they are undertaken and the analysis of the data to come to a conclusion or recommendation. You will understand how to work safely with chemicals and be able to risk assess and document procedures for the various tests to ensure the tests are done in a consistent and safe manner.
This role is perfect for someone with similar previous experience or a Science/Chemical Engineering Graduate, looking for a long term career growth with a global company.
This is a permanent opportunity, working a 4/4 days only roster. The successful candidate will be residentially based or willing to relocate to Port Pirie or nearby surrounding region. Nyrstar provides a generous relocation and salary package.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Ensuring Metallurgical experiments are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner
  • Be able to liaise with Metallurgists, understand their needs, set up and perform the laboratory work requested
  • Document experiments in terms of methods utilised, observations and specific data measured
  • Report experimental results to a good standard including observations as well as data points
  • Perform commissioning (in plant) work when requested. This may require occasional shift work
  • Ensure laboratory housekeeping is to a satisfactory standard, equipment is maintained and supplies are to sufficient levels
  • Provide support for the site sampling team as required
