JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY The Manager of Logistics is a vital part of the team responsible for managing Medline’s transportation providers. Responsible for providing outstanding delivery service to Medline’s customers at an appropriate cost. Has the authority to make independent decisions regarding the processes and costs to deliver to customers. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES COST-EFFECTIVE OPERATIONS This position has direct involvement and control over factors that affect expense through, but not limited to: •Scheduling initiatives (quantity of delivery days) •Exception management for higher profitability customers •Management of additional service requests (inside delivery, lift gate, guaranteed delivery times, and same day expedited needs) •Carrier selection in response to service issues and/or escalations Decision authority has direct impact on the corporate Freight as a Percent of Sales (FPS). CARRIER RELATIONSHIPS Build and develop relationships with carriers to include regularbusiness reviews concerning cost and service. Assist Medline distribution centers with carrier relationships regarding operational processes and local coordination (including regular site visits). Assist in leading third party carrier relations and negotiations to optimize Medline’s transportation network in conjunction with contracting team. SERVICE Work directly with Medline sales to develop strategies to better serve customers weighing the competitive market vs. cost to serve. Travel to branches, customers, and carriers as necessary to address customer service needs or transportation initiatives. Manages team responsible for service support (Sales Reps, carriers, branches). ISSUE RESOLUTION Responsible for providing resolution for Operational Service Issues (OSIs) and answering inbound calls from sales reps and other Medline employees as appropriate. Resolve specific transportation issues that escalate including having the authority to approve expedited and rescue moves as they arise. Position interacts daily with carriers to get resolution on customer carrier issues. Oversees carrier pickup schedules including full truckload, rush carriers, rescues, etc. ANALYSIS Proactively manage and improve Medline’s carrier performance regarding customer deliveries through Operation Service Issue trend analysis and proactive carrier shipment electronic updates. LEAD PROJECTS Manage special projects such as scheduling initiatives and continuous review of extra services provided in coordination with sales to help reduce the company’s freight as a percent of sales (FPS). Respond to national emergencies as necessary where the Company plays an active response role. Management responsibilities: -Typically oversees professional employees/teams OR manages non-professional employees through Supervisors in manufacturing, distribution or office environments -Day-to-day operations of a group of employees -May have limited budgetary responsibility and usually contributes to budgetary impact -Interpret and execute policies for departments/projects; develop, recommend and implement new policies or modifications to existing policies -Provide general guidelines and parameters for staff functioning -Hiring staff, recommending pay increases, performing performance reviews, training and development of staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS Education Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field and 4 years of overall Logistics/Transportation relevant experience OR at least 8 years of overall Logistics/Transportation relevant experience. Work Experience Must have experience managing transportation activities of a large distributor/supplier of products including experience managing over $150M in transportation costs with a diverse LTL, TL, and Parcel carrier base. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Demonstrated expert knowledge and experience with activities in outbound freight i.e. customer deliveries (private fleet freight service, parcel shipments, LTL) or comparable transportation experience. Demonstrated experience on creating cost efficiencies with transportation activities. Strong leadership qualities with a good presence dealing with customers, executive management, sales management, and operations management. Requires excellent communication skills for problem resolution. Able to adapt to ever-changing priorities. Emotionally mature, self-motivated and willing and able to work well under pressure. Prior experience with SAP, TMS, WMS, Excel, Word and Access. Position requires travel up to 15% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

The anticipated salary range for this position:
$87,360.00 - $131,040.00 Annual
This salary range is an estimate and the actual salary will vary based on applicant’s location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. This role is bonus and/or incentive eligible. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.

For roles where employees work less than 30 hours per week, benefits include 401(k) contributions as well as access to the Employee Assistance Program, Employee Resource Groups and the Employee Service Corp.
