SUMMARY

Our Microbiology Analyst key objective is to analyze and report routine microbiology samples in a thorough and efficient manner. This role is a member of our General Chemistry/Microbiology department and will also have the opportunity to be cross-trained in the general chemistry areas of analysis.

REQUIREMENTS

  • One (1) year experience in a laboratory setting and/or hold a diploma in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of basic lab analytical skills
  • Must be a dynamic individual who is very organized, maintains work areas clean, pays attention to detail and has a strong sense of urgency when executing his/her/their tasks.
  • Must be able to establish good communication with the Team Leader and other staff in the organization, specifically his/her/their team mates.
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be able to come to work on a daily basis and as requested.
  • Requires the physical stamina to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds

Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine microbiology analyses such as microtox analysis on water/soil samples, the determination of total and fecal coliforms and E.coli in water and the determination of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). These duties as well as any other tasks requested by the Microbiology Team Leader and all associated quality control activities.
  • Maintaining quality control by performing QC checks routinely, updating the necessary logs or charts, analyzing trends, and applying corrective actions and/or reporting nonconformances to the Microbiology Team Leader.
  • Managing time and setting priorities based on the required urgency of reporting results.
  • Ensuring that all samples are analyzed within the required holding times, which ranges from 24 to 72 hours for microbiology, toxicity and wastewater analyses
  • Maintaining acceptable turn-around times (TATs) to ensure client jobs are reported on or before the specified date/time.
  • Performing routine maintenance, cleaning and disinfection of microbiology equipment.
  • Keeping a clean and tidy work area, cleaning up and disinfecting after every batch of analysis.
  • Keeping open communications with the Microbiology Team Leader about issues which may arise while performing tasks.
  • Ensuring that all safety and biosafety policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
