WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for an individual with a strong interest in microbiology and laboratory work who is eager to contribute to a high-performing team. Candidates should be proactive, organised, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, quality, and compliance in microbiological testing.
The ideal candidate will have:
· A science-based degree (Microbiology, Biology, or a related field is advantageous but not essential).
· Experience in a laboratory environment (preferred but not required).
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise procedures.
· Good communication and organisational skills.
· A willingness to learn and work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
Responsibilities:
Envirochem is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Microbiology Laboratory Technician to support the day-to-day operations of our UKAS-accredited laboratory. This full-time, permanent role involves performing microbiological analysis and ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards, contributing to high-quality testing and analysis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting laboratory tests, maintaining quality control procedures, and assisting with the accreditation process. This role offers hands-on experience in a professional laboratory setting, with opportunities to develop and refine laboratory skills in microbiological testing.
Key responsibilities include:
· Performing microbiological analysis in accordance with ISO 17025, our management system, and in-house methods.
· Maintaining laboratory standards through general tasks such as cleaning, stock checks, waste disposal, and monitoring air and temperature levels.
· Preparing and conducting quality control checks on media to ensure accuracy in testing.
· Assisting with calibration, servicing, and record-keeping for laboratory equipment.
· Supporting the lead auditor during UKAS accreditation visits.
· Maintaining accurate and up-to-date laboratory records, ensuring all documentation is completed correctly.
· Completing laboratory paperwork related to testing and quality control.
· Receiving and logging samples and results efficiently using our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
· Participating in sampling activities when required.
· Contributing to the development and validation of new microbiological testing methods.
· Participating in external proficiency testing (PT) exercises to ensure continued compliance and quality assurance.
· Opportunities for overtime: Once training is complete being part of a weekend rota to support smooth laboratory operations.
