DESIRABLE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Interest in UK and EU politics;
  • A knowledge of HTML and CSS;
  • Experience working across all digital touchpoints including social, web & UI design;
  • Video editing, encoding, and optimisation for mobile and web;
  • Experience in photography and videography; and
  • A good knowledge of CMYK, RGB, & PANTONE colour modes.

Requirements, skills and experience:

  • 6+ years of graphic design experience in publishing;
  • Proficiency in CC versions of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator;
  • Strong communication, conceptual thinking, typography and design skills;
  • A strong portfolio displaying creative thinking and visual skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • A ‘creative person’ with a can-do attitude;
  • Passion for what you do with an eye for graphics & design;
  • A commercial understanding of how the briefs you’re working on impact bigger business objectives;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Experience in delivering print ready documents;

Responsibilities:

Total Politics Group is seeking a skilled Designer to join our creative team, focusing on editorial layout and design for our industry-leading media brands and publications.
In this role, you will work across a diverse portfolio, creating visually engaging and impactful designs for several divisions including Editorial, Commercial, Events, Training, Research, and Marketing
As a key member of the design department, you will play a vital role in shaping the look and feel of our print and digital products, including magazines, supplements, commercial campaigns, event collateral, digital display ads, newsletters and social media. You will be expected to develop innovative design concepts, working closely with editorial, marketing, event, sales and creative solutions teams to ensure that our visual content stands out in the fast-paced political landscape.
Strong attention to detail, excellent project management skills, and the ability to meet tight deadlines are essential. Recent high-profile projects you will contribute to include The House Magazine, The Parliament Magazine and Civil Service World and their supplements, Women In Westminter: Top 100, the Civil Service Awards, the NHS Parliamentary Awards and a selection of EU based events and roundtables.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Creative Ideation; Participate in brainstorming sessions, contributing ideas and concepts during editorial and commercial meetings, and new design projects.
  • Design Development; Create and design editorial and commercial layouts for our brands and partners using Adobe software.
  • Ownership; Take accountability for accurately creating bespoke imagery, graphics, illustrations, diagrams and infographics.
  • Collaboration; Work closely with the senior and junior designers in the team as well as wider editorial, marketing, commercial and events teams ensuring content align with the overall strategy.
  • Fast-paced working; Work under tight deadlines and juggle multiple workstreams, amend designs after feedback.
  • Brand Consistency; Ensure projects align with brand style guides, for both internal and external projects and help maintain brand consistency.
  • Creative Support; Support the creative team in producing high-quality design that aligns with our brands.
  • Digital Asset Management; Design and develop assets for websites including digital banners, email and newsletters. Assist with digital content creation, such as social media graphics, videos and photos. Prepare and resize assets for web use, ensuring optimisation for different platforms and devices.
  • Image Preparation; Sourcing, checking and processing imagery for print ready use, as well as crop and size imagery, preparing it for web use, and systematically filing away for future requirements.
  • Asset Organisation; Work closely with the team to keep all assets and design files organised and up-to-date.
  • Open-minded; Keep up to date with design and multimedia trends and the latest developments in software tools.
