Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario to practice as a Registered Practical Nurse with current unrestricted registration status.
  • Nursing Diploma from a recognized and accredited program, with 2-3 years’ working experience in public health, community, hospital, or a similar area of nursing.
  • Experience with communicable disease, prenatal care, sexual health, footcare, diabetes, wound care, and immunization.
  • Two years’ experience working with Indigenous Women and their families.
  • Certification in diabetes education and footcare is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to the Practice Standards and Guidelines set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario as they relate to the public health practice setting.
  • Understands and uses the nursing process with individualized care plans and planning.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in establishing and maintaining therapeutic nurse-client relationships with individuals, families, and groups from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Effectively communicates using written, verbal, non-verbal, and technical skills.
  • Experience in developing and delivering programming, education, and training to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to form professional and collaborative working relationships and function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and maintain high performance standards while practicing independently to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the values of accountability, cost-consciousness, equity, excellence, honesty, innovation, leadership, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, engage in reflective practice and constructive feedback to improve performance and develop professionally.
  • Understanding of public health (Community Wellbeing) and Indigenous health care systems.
  • Understands the history and jurisdictional issues impacting Indigenous women and their families and communities collectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditional practices.
  • Strong organizational, project management and time management skills, with the ability to plan, and manage time effectively.
  • Capacity to solve problems, critically think and to see different perspectives.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision and under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can multitask and prioritize without guidance.
  • Knowledge of not-for profit organizations
  • Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to travel and perform shift work including weekends and evenings to meet community needs.
  • Dependable/punctual with strong attendance history.
  • Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance and valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
