Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Mine Costing Lead, you will support the evaluation, development, execution, and compliance of mine plans through collaboration with Canadian Natural’s Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance, and other Mine Technical Services groups. You will also have a role in supporting other business unit projects providing technical and operational support.
- Job location: Calgary, AB (with possible future assignment to Horizon Oil Sands – Fort McMurray, AB)
- Shift schedule: 5 x 2, Mon to Fri, 8-hour shifts

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Utilize sound engineering practices and relevant mine planning software in the development of mine plans, budgets, forecasts, and costing reports
- Manage data, perform consistently accurate calculations, and check work completed to fulfill assigned tasks
- Administer existing tracking systems to ensure compliance with plans
- Review with, present to, and obtain alignment from, all groups affected by the mine plan
- Prepare and present plans to all levels of leadership, inside of Mine Technical Services and beyond
- Communicate with personnel in the mine’s Geotechnical/Geology, Mine Operations and Mine Maintenance departments, as required, to ensure all pertinent information is reflected in plans and reports
- Be present in the active mining areas on a periodic basis to ensure the mine plans reflect actual field conditions and operational settings
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
- Bachelor’s degree in mining, geological, or civil engineering from an accredited university
- Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
- Demonstrated knowledge of surface mining operations, budget planning, and cost analyses
- Positive attitude coupled with a strong desire to solve technical challenges
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and compatible mine design software
- Experience working in a team environment
- Strong inter-personal and presentation skills
