About Jacinth-Ambrosia
Jacinth-Ambrosia is located 270 kilometres north of the Port of Thevenard, near Ceduna. It is the world’s largest source of zircon, and a Tier 1 deposit with extensive reserves. It is the first mining development in a mixed-use regional reserve – the Yellabina Regional Reserve – in South Australia, with the operation demonstrating a commitment to high environmental standards and progressive land rehabilitation. Jacinth-Ambrosia site has a fully equipped modern camp with facilities including a gym, pool, sports courts, recreation rooms, Wi-Fi and Foxtel.
About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to join Iluka’s Technical Services team, based at our Jacinth-Ambrosia operation.
This permanent position offers a unique opportunity to optimise and maintain safe mining and tailings stream deposition.
We are looking for someone with a background in tailings management or geotechnical engineering who can provide technical support to our operational teams and broaden their skillset into the mining engineering discipline. As a subject matter expert, you will lead the tailings management program, mentor team members, and share your knowledge with all involved.
This is a site based FIFO role comprising an 8 days on / 6 days off roster, with travel from either Adelaide or Ceduna provided.
Key elements of the role include:
- Providing specialist technical support to our operational teams
- Fulfilling the role of Tailings Responsible Site Person
- Ensuring management of tailings aligns with ANCOLD requirements and Iluka’s Group Standards
- Managing the development, operation and closure of TSFs at Site and all the engineering aspects including planning, site characterisation and risk management
- Implementing, refining and administrating the site Tailings Management Plan and associated Operations Manuals and Emergency Management Plans
- Conducting tailings storage facility inspections, document and communicate findings
- Contributing to the preparation of fit-for-purpose TSF design, construction management, operational, rehabilitation and closure plans
- Contributing to short, medium and long term mining and tailings deposition plans
- Preparing detailed work scopes for consultants and contractors and managing resulting contracts
- Sharing knowledge with and mentoring colleagues
About You
To be successful for this role, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, engineering geology, geological engineering, or civil engineering, and/or a postgraduate degree in geotechnical engineering or mine geomechanics
- Experience working as a Tailings Engineer or Geotechnical Engineer, with a significant part of this experience gained within mining operations
- Insight of ANCOLD guidelines and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management
- Have completed or be eligible to complete a tailings management course
- Self-motivated with a high level of attention to detail
- Proactive approach to health, safety, environment, social responsibility and sustainable development
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Current driver’s licence
