About the role
The Ministry Leader will oversee mission and ministry efforts; delivering integrated and holistic mission of The Salvation Army in the Greater Shoalhaven Region in collaboration with the Team Leaders. They will address pastoral and spiritual needs of community; developing Christian faith pathways via spiritual leadership and discipleship practices.
The Ministry Leader will implement the Communities of Hope framework in the Region; delivering quality, needs-based programs, activities and ministries. They will train and support volunteers for ministry and community service. The role includes line management of the Ulladulla Family Store.
Reporting to the Shoalhaven Team Leader this is a full time permanent position based in Nowra, NSW. Salary in accordance with Hay Level 13.

You will successfully

  • Collaborate with Shoalhaven Team Leaders to develop, implement, and review local mission plans aligned with the National Strategy and Divisional Goals.
  • Develop deep understanding of community needs and create sustainable initiatives to address these (in partnership with Team Leaders).
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver programs and activities that support TSA’s mission and address local community needs.
  • Address pastoral and spiritual needs of community with sensitivity and care.
  • Develop pathways to share the Christian gospel, promote spiritual growth, and make disciple-makers.
  • Facilitate worship services, discipleship groups, fellowship, & special events to nurture spiritual growth.
  • Teach and mentor others to develop spiritual maturity through practical application of God’s Word.
  • Establish and expand discipleship groups using relevant training resources.
  • Encourage soldiers, adherents, and attendees to engage in the Army’s broader mission, discover their gifts, and participate in local ministries.
  • Model Christ-like behaviour and Jesus-centred living consistently.
  • Oversee Community Connect Hub to ensure it is welcoming and promoting of TSA’s missional priorities: faith pathways, caring for people, building healthy communities, and working for justice.
  • Inspire staff and volunteers to contribute meaningfully to the hub’s objectives.
  • Build strategic partnerships with TSA service providers (e.g., Doorways, NILS, Moneycare) and external providers to meet community needs effectively.

You will have

  • Proven Leadership (spiritual and organisational), pastoral capabilities and demonstrated effectiveness in evangelism and discipleship.
  • Bachelor of Ministry or Theology or other formal training (preferred)
  • A strong commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army; a solid understanding of The Salvation Army’s doctrines and principles. An ability to offer pastoral assistance, to offer prayer and to explain the Christian Gospel
  • Experience working in a faith based or not-for-profit context in support of vulnerable community members who are seeking support.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging effectively with people from diverse cultural, socio-economic, educational and LGBTIQA+ backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing community-based activities and ministries
  • Self-motivated, demonstrating a high level of initiative
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • A mandatory requirement of this role is to become a soldier or commit to the Soldiers Covenant
  • This role may require work to be undertaken on weekends and outside of usual business hours. Days off will be as mutually agreed and in accordance with the National Employment Standards.
  • Current/ Valid Driver’s licence
  • Working With Children Check is required
  • A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check is required
  • All compulsory training modules are completed and up to date
