The role holder will work closely with all staff within the Engineering division to ensure the smooth integrated operational delivery of infrastructure management, engineering, fabric and maintenance services to ensure the estate and associated infrastructure is fit for purpose, legally compliant, providing high levels of customer service and meeting other institutional priorities and initiatives. The role will also play a role in delivering UCL’s broader Sustainability Strategy and carbon reduction targets.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting an experienced (Mechanical) Minor Works Project Manager for our London offices close to Kings Cross St Pancras station. This is a rare opportunity to join and iconic organisation and an experienced and supportive team of professional engineers.
The role will entail planned maintenance, alteration and refurbishment works. You will also be required to provide technical and professional advice as necessary to ensure that all work is carried out efficiently, to the required quality standard, on time, within budget constraints and in accordance with legal and statutory requirements.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To provide a mechanical & electrical minor works project management service for adaptation and refurbishment building projects, for replacement of plant, systems and project works arising from maintenance operations. The duties include site surveys, design, specification, contract administration, site inspection and cost control.
  • Report on progress of works being directly managed, to ensure the works are completed in accordance with the programmes and within the agreed cost limits.
  • To liaise with and advise as required other members of UCL and the Estates Division.
  • To ensure UCL’s standards are observed and implemented for all works under control.
  • To ensure that all statutory requirements are complied with for works under control.
  • In the exercise of these duties, ensure familiarity with Health, Safety & Welfare standards and policies procedures including those set down by UCL and ensure that they are complied with.
  • To provide information on completed projects to enable adequate records to be maintained of services plant, equipment and systems installed in UCL premises; and for the building safety files to be updated.
  • To identify and by way of development of a business case, obtain approval for any mechanical, electrical or energy saving opportunities that is identified as a departmental priority.
  • To provide information and assistance in preparation of departmental and divisional budgets.
  • Support the Assistant Director in the strategic delivery of the infrastructure improvement.
  • Manage suppliers and identify risks (including H&S) to project delivery.
  • Provide monthly report on progress, Health & Safety and forecast expenditure for projects.
  • Conduct continuous professional development and training as necessary and related to the role. Be familiar and adhere to UCL policies, and Industry compliance requirements and if appropriate engage in industry activities that will benefit UCL.
