Description:

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

Oregon Tech’s Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Technology (MMET) department is growing rapidly – both due to increasing enrollment and new opportunities to develop applied research programs. MMET is already one of the largest departments at Oregon Tech and currently offers 3 undergraduate degrees and 1 graduate degree at our 3 campuses in the Pacific Northwest. The MMET department boasts 23 lab spaces and a hands on approach to learning for students.
Our students are active in competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE and RoboSub; and many students take advantage of the internship opportunities offered through MECOP – a unique internship alliance driven collaboratively by Oregon’s engineering universities, their respective student bodies, and industry partners. Additionally, Oregon Tech is investing heavily in the future of the MMET department. Center for Excellence in Engineering & Technology (CEET) building will include collaboration spaces, makerspaces, labs, and virtual classrooms to deliver lectures simultaneously to all Oregon Tech campuses, community colleges and industry partners. All of our undergraduate programs are accredited by ABET.

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to provide both oversight and technical support for MMET engineering programs, projects and laboratory facilities including the Boeing Collaboration Laboratory and applied research projects. MMET courses across all programs rely on hands-on experiments that use project-based learning to enhance students understanding of the theory. MMET has multiple laboratories that use equipment for demonstrating and implementing topics taught in lecture as well as for supporting senior projects and applied research. It is important that a qualified person be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving facilities and equipment to achieve programs’ learning objectives. This position assists students and faculty by providing expertise on manufacturing processes used in student projects and establishing best practices for laboratory safety. Position is responsible for ensuring safety procedures are established, posted, and followed in all MMET laboratory facilities.
Oregon Tech’s MMET Department is committed to inclusive thought and action in support of our diverse community. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups and all those who share our commitment to inclusivity and passion for the strength of our diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.
