Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/MEMBERSHIPS:

  • College diploma in architectural or engineering technology or woodworking preferred, or commensurate experience
  • Excellent attention to detail with high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently, while also working effectively within a close-knit team
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving
  • Proficiency with computer applications including AutoCAD, SketchUp and REVIT
  • Ability to produce physical and 3D computer models from 2D drawings
  • Ability to use various power and hand tools
  • Solid communication skills
  • Capable of lifting as much as 40 lbs independently
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities:

ROLE

As our new Model Builder, you will play an important role on the team, taking on responsibility for creating physical and computer-generated 3D models for our Microclimate Team. This is a casual hourly-as-needed position, currently expected to be about 15 to 25 hours a week with the potential for increased hours over time.
Whether you are someone who has experience in 3D modeling, is an enthusiastic architectural or engineering technology graduate, or an experienced craftsman, this is a great opportunity to work on unique and interesting projects that will have an impact on the day-to-day lives of people across Canada and the United States.
Key Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build physical scale models out of plywood, MDF and foam
  • Operate a variety of shop equipment, including hand and power tools, as well as computers and relevant software
  • Decipher information from 2D and 3D architectural information, photos, and aerial images to conceive and construct physical and 3D computer models
  • Participate in planning and coordination of projects
  • Conduct online searches for drawing information and approved developments
  • Collaborate with internal team to solve design and construction issues
  • Ensure project requirements are fulfilled through ongoing communication within team
  • Shuttle physical models between Guelph office and wind tunnel in London, ON
  • Assist with model storage and organization
