Job Description

General Purpose and Scope of Position:
The Customer Service Representative position will support the Operations Department with various functions, including Customer Service functions, such as order entry, invoicing, and other duties, assisting in the coordination of inbound and outbound truck and rail logistic functions for New Hamburg plant operations, supporting Alpine Brand, Industrial Chemicals, and Deicer & Mining; logistic requirements for movement of finished product and raw material orders; raw material receipts and inventory reconciliation.

Key Skills and Abilities:

  • High School Diploma required; two-year Associate Degree preferred and 3-5 years related experience in customer service and clerical work
  • Proficient ten-key typing skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Great Plains experience preferred
  • Experience in agriculture or chemicals preferred

Key Personal Attributes Include:

  • Experience with railcar and truck logistics preferred
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • A high level of commitment and accountability in all areas of responsibility
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required for positive interactions between internal and external employees, customers, and suppliers
  • The ability to demonstrate and maintain professionalism in interactions with others, including the ability to work with a high level of confidentiality, is needed.
  • Ability to work and contribute independently and/or within a team on given assignments
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to accomplish multiple assignments and meet deadlines

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

  • Fertilizer and Industrial Order Taking via phone, fax, or email confirming orders and expected delivery times with plant and customer. Order entry and necessary shipping packet paperwork. Invoicing for Ag and Industrial Sales, which includes both Plant and Terminal Sales for Canada.
  • Work with Customer Service Manager to resolve any customer issues, including, but not limited to product and invoicing issues.
  • Input warehouse transfers and raw material receipts for Plant and Terminals
  • Railroad Contact – Order loaded rail cars from the Plant to correct railroad, release empty raw material rail cars, contact railroad for scheduled switching movements
  • Plant Inventory Reconciliation – work with the Plant Manager and Lab personnel to reconcile any inventory issues before sending to the Inventory Accountant
  • Dispatching – assist in scheduling deliveries, communicating with Plant and Terminals for Production needs and timelines, and determining available drivers/equipment
  • 24/7 production support during Ice Melt season for Dispatch arrangements as required
  • Other Duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits:

  • In compliance with all states and cities that require transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position is $25.00 per hour. Note that wages may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, retirement plans, and other benefits.
