AN EXCITING NEW ROLE
National Aboriginal Family Support Worker (Yarning Support) for the ForWhen Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an innovative national service for parents. Join our national team and apply for this position to enhance the delivery of the ForWhen service on country to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
In 2021, a consortium of early parenting services and research partners received funding to deliver a national place-based perinatal and infant mental health care navigation phone line until June 2025. Each state and territory has clinical navigators. The successful candidate will work alongside our clinical navigators, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services to provide culturally safe and accessible support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers.
THE PURPOSE OF THE ROLE IS TO:
- Provide Cultural Support: Assist ForWhen clinical navigators in their respective states and territories to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers safely and effectively.
- Facilitate Engagement: Collaborate with host sites across the country to ensure the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and families in the perinatal period (conception to one year of age) with clinical navigators, providing culturally appropriate care and navigation to suitable organisations that meet family needs.
- Liaise with Aboriginal Services: Work with Aboriginal peak bodies, services, and key stakeholders across Australia to ensure perinatal families have access to culturally appropriate resources and support.
- Support National Engagement: Participate in limited interstate travel as necessary to support national engagement efforts. Interstate travel is often not necessary, as the work is usually provided over the phone.
- Collaborate with the Yarning Lead: Work closely with the national ForWhen Yarning Lead, who will provide guidance and support in your role.
