Position Status: Full-Time Temporary (This position to last not later than August 14, 2026)
Department: Parks & Environment (Regional Parks)

Location: 4515 Central Boulevard, Burnaby
Salary Range/ Wage Rate: PG T23 $2,953.65 - $3,486.53 bi-weekly
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with staff and park partners to develop annual and multi-year work plans and procedures to facilitate restoration, research and adaptive management of natural assets within regional parks; assists with parks projects and research studies related to natural resource management initiatives and potential habitat restoration and research projects; assists with best practices related to policy proposals for review by a superior.
- Promotes awareness of policies, objectives and programs to various stakeholders, staff, volunteers and the general public to manage environmental issues within regional parks such as, invasive plants, beaver management, tree management, artificial nests, and human-wildlife conflicts.
- Assists in determining treatment priorities, restoration plans, strategies, and tactics for natural resource management; conducts field mapping inventories of invasive plant species; conducts biophysical field surveys; collects and interprets data, ecological values and biodiversity measures; monitors efficacy of invasive species treatments; researches activities, and ecological restoration progress; processes data collected through GPS activities or other sources into structured GIS models and manages these systems; provides current and reliable information; and creates GIS derived natural resources management related maps as requested.
- Facilitates recruitment initiatives for volunteers; utilizes tools including web pages, volunteer placement boards, information sessions, volunteer fairs, post-secondary institutions and other networking opportunities; communicates project objectives, expectations, locations, etiquette, and scheduling with volunteers.
- Identifies opportunities for volunteers to get involved in ecological restoration and wildlife monitoring; explains site safety guidelines and conducts site hazard assessments; refers and assigns volunteers to projects and events; coordinates staff resources and contractors to assist in the delivery of programs such as invasive species removal; ensures equipment and supplies are on-site; acquires, maintains, and replaces equipment as required.
- Provides information, orientation, resources and training to volunteers and seasonal staff; tracks volunteer time and effort; and inputs information into volunteer data tracking system.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, external researchers, consultants, municipal and other levels of government, various authorities, First Nations, and non-governmental organizations to help promote natural area management initiatives and objectives.
- Assists with various administrative duties, tracks project budget materials and supplies; completes purchasing statements; assists in research permit application processes; provides content to regional parks communications and publications; provides reports and input on resource management issues and various projects; may participate in public engagement events as required.
- Performs related work as required.
