MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced university degree in climate sciences, agrometeorology, geography or data sciences.
  • Seven years of relevant experience in leading work on climate, disaster risk reduction and environmental data and information for development of policies, programs and investments in agriculture or related fields, as well as in supporting countries on agrometeorology, climate modelling and related tools and methodologies.
  • Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

TECHNICAL/FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in project management and programme operational experience, including leading technical teams to support donors, multilateral organizations, civil society organization and policy makers on climate and environmental data and information, climate services, as well as early warning systems in agriculture.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in producing climate data and risk information across Organization’s work areas, including policies, projects and programmes.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in using climate models and tools, agrometeorological services and early warning of hazards such as drought, applied to agriculture.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in the analysis and formulation of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation strategies, policies (such as for National Adaptation Plans (NAPs)) and projects (such as GEF and GCF) for sustainable agrifood systems.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in providing capacity development in climate services and disaster risk reduction.
  • Familiarity with the UN system institutions and working experience in collaborating and networking with relevant international and government institutions.
