This internship offers a valuable learning opportunity for someone interested in supporting the private sector in halting and reversing nature loss for the benefit of people and the planet.
For years the business and nature narrative has focused on promoting the corporate targets of No Net Loss (NNL) and Net Gain of biodiversity. More recently the concept of Nature Positive has come to the fore bringing with it a flurry of corporate commitments to Nature Positive. The Nature Positive Initiative defines Nature Positive as the achievement of a full recovery of nature by 2050 starting with the halting and reversing of nature loss by 2030 on a 2020 baseline. Amongst those businesses committing to achieving Nature Positive there is often a misunderstanding of what the concept is intending to communicate begging answers to the following questions: How do the targets of NNL and Net Gain relate to Nature Positive? When can a company claim to be contributing towards Nature Positive, if at all?
This internship offers you an opportunity to grow your knowledge of the business and nature space. We will guide and assist you in learning about NNL, Net Gain and Nature Positive. You will be expected to gather perspectives on what Fauna & Flora’s approach to Nature Positive should be, from both within and without the organisation. Based on these findings and learnings you will be expected to propose the shape of our corporate approach to Nature Positive.
Throughout this process you will get hands on experience in applying these concepts and others related to business, biodiversity and nature in the context of our ongoing corporate partnerships through participation in partnership meetings and the provision of input into partnership deliverables, such as site review reports, biodiversity metrics and guidance documents, to name a few. This opportunity will provide you with exposure to corporate decision-making processes. Furthermore, it will enable you to develop your critical thinking, networking, collaboration, facilitation, persuasion and project management skills.
Depending on your interests there may be the opportunity to shadow specific team members or other teams to enable you to develop in these areas. You will be expected to build networks both within and without Fauna & Flora while gaining insight into how an international NGO such as ours works and the role we play in the business and nature context.
The closing date for applications is Monday, 26 August 2024. Interviews are likely to take place during the week commencing Monday, 2 September 2024.
