About Us
The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role
This role supports the overall provision of the Navigation and Triage service within MCV. The role will provide navigation and triage services for court users to access mainstream court support programs and specialist services and agencies.
The role will engage directly with court users and partner agencies to provide specialist support and general information regarding court hearings, engaging with parties to collect sensitive information, and to support early referrals to legal and specialist services.
This role is being piloted as part of MCV’s response to the need for a more seamless and efficient way for court users who present with complex needs to access and navigate the court system.
This role is based at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court and will work alongside the Court Support Services Team (CISP & ARC) and be part of the broader Navigation and Triage Team which is based at Melbourne. There will be occasional travel required to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for team meetings and operational support as directed.

About You

  • Sound knowledge of the Victorian Justice system, Specialist Courts and Programs, solution focused courts and therapeutic jurisprudence.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in triage, client engagement, risk assessment (derived from multiple sources),crisis management, safety planning, and case management working with clients who have complex issues.
  • Demonstrated experience using evidence-based approaches that are person centred, strengths based, trauma informed and culturally sensitive.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the interplay of family violence, mental health and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and other complexities in the Specialists Courts and Programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing culturally sensitive support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants.
  • Knowledge of court procedures, processes and referral pathways is desirable.
