JOB DESCRIPTION

The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Program Office (ESGPO) is part of U.S. Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility Team and works to meet evolving regulatory and stakeholder expectations for sustainability performance and management of ESG issues. The ESGPO team is responsible for delivering in three critical areas: (1) enterprise-wide ESG strategy, transformation, and integration into business and operational practices; (2) reporting; (3) external partnerships and engagement.
The Net Zero Program Manager will principally support the Net Zero Strategy Lead, the Net Zero Data Lead and Head of ESGPO in development and execution of the enterprise net zero strategy. In particular, the individual will provide program management, data analysis and subject matter expertise in carbon accounting, decarbonization pathways across the real economy and sustainable finance to support Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions measurement. Scope 3, Category 15 (client) related financed emissions analysis, strategic engagement and reporting to support sector-specific 2030 interim net zero target-setting; and financed emissions disclosures consistent with the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials methodology and evolving industry practices.
In supporting the net zero strategy the Net Zero Program Manager will support and partner with business stakeholders in the ESGPO, Climate, Credit and Reputation Risk, the Sustainable Finance Team in U.S. Bank’s Impact Finance organization and various business teams in the Institutional Client Group, Consumer Bank, Corporate Real Estate team and Third-party Risk Management.
This individual should understand greenhouse gas accounting frameworks and financed emissions calculations as applied to different sectors and asset classes. This individual will feel at ease creating complex queries and extracting large, raw datasets from various sources, merging, and transforming raw data into usable data and analytic structures, and benchmarking results to known standards and resolving differences across different data sources. They must feel comfortable with quantitative analysis and be able to effectively communicate and disseminate findings and insights to internal stakeholders, including senior management through concise, organized and impactful presentations. They should have experience in program management and execution, including progress tracking, and internal and external stakeholder engagement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in data management or analytics, engineering, sustainability, environmental studies, finance or other related field
  • At least six (6) or more years of experience in statistical and/or data management and analytics and visualization (intersection with financial services strongly preferred)
  • Understanding of corporate accounting data integrity considerations and risk management
  • Practical experience with GHG Protocol, supporting data procurement and analytics of leading ESG reporting frameworks, specifically ISSB/TCFD and PCAF and experience with climate-related data providers and sources
  • Master’s degree in data science, earth/climate sciences, engineering, sustainability, natural resource management, environmental economics, finance or other related field
  • Knowledge of other frameworks and standards, including SASB, CDP, GRI and other impact reporting frameworks and industry guidance, emerging regulatory requirements (SEC Climate Rule, EU CSRD, CSDDD)
  • Understanding of basics of corporate finance and sustainable finance products and carbon markets

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Net zero transition planning and execution: Partners with Net Zero Strategy Lead and Net Zero Data Lead and Head of ESG Program Office in developing and executing enterprise-wide net zero transition plan and operational roadmap, with a focus on data procurement, analysis and reporting capabilities, liaising with consultants, external data providers and partner organizations, Business Lines, Reputation Risk, Climate Risk and Technology functions
  • Data and Analytics: Supports Net Zero Data Lead in developing internal dashboards, analysis and external reporting against PCAF standards and net zero transition preparedness analytics and engagement of Corporate Real Estate Team to enhance strategy for meeting Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions goals
  • Reporting: Supports ESG Data and Reporting, specifically financed emissions analysis (net zero targets and PCAF) and client engagement data analysis for TCFD report
  • Supply Chain Emissions Analytics: Partners with Procurement on data integration for Scope 3 emissions analysis
