Description:
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Information Technology Services’ Infrastructure team is seeking applications for the position of Network Analyst. This is a full-time, permanent, on-site position, reporting to the Manager of Planning & Infrastructure.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Maintain the uninterrupted flow of data communications and telephone services by monitoring operations and resolving problems to ensure timely, reliable and cost-effective network/telecom services to client departments. This includes management and maintenance for the Cisco voice environment (Call Manager/Unity Connection/Contact Centre Express).
- Implement and maintain security appliances to ensure all data and applications are protected from unauthorized access. As internal and external network environments evolve, and new applications are continually introduced, refining and monitoring of security software/hardware is an ongoing requirement.
- Implement and maintain a robust, flexible, expandable infrastructure to support the cloud/network/internet business requirements of the Polytechnic.
- Knowledge of physical cabling standards and data centre best practices to expand the physical network. Close, collaborative partnerships with the Facilities department and electrical contractors are essential.
- Knowledge of all components in the network (e.g. switches, routers, controllers, access points, firewalls, servers, etc.) to plan and lifecycle the interconnected enterprise.
- In-depth knowledge of IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and the various TCP and UDP application protocols encapsulated by them (SMTP, SSH, SSL, etc.). Knowledge of Windows Server and Linux is required.
- Possession of a security-first mindset. This includes applied experience with Next-Generation Firewalls, VPNs, IoT networks, 802.1x, and other cybersecurity best practices.
- Ability to do medium-effort physical work. For example, lifting servers and network equipment, accessing tight spaces for cabling, and climbing ladders to mount access points. Regular exposure to hot, loud environments such as data centres are also expected.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science (or a related discipline) and several years of enterprise experience in network, telephone, system administration or related fields. A suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered
- Professional designations granted by Cisco, Aruba, or other networking disciplines such as CCNA and/or CompTIA Network+ would be a strong additional asset
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- To be successful, candidates must demonstrate that they are highly organized, have excellent attention to detail, utilize effective communication skills when working with partners, and have experience coordinating a high volume of interrelated enterprise services
- While this role works closely with a small team of professionals, it is expected that the Network Analyst will be a self-starter who thrives with minimal supervision
