Description:

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE OF THE NETWORK CAPACITY ENGINEER

  • An understanding of network infrastructure used to support satellite operations.
  • Knowledge of different operating systems such as Unix, Linux, Windows etc.
  • Experience with Network Operations.
  • Experience of performance monitoring toolsets.
  • Understanding in Satellite Communications, Tivoli Performance Manager and Cisco Prime along with other monitoring tools is desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE NETWORK CAPACITY ENGINEER

  • CCNA / CCNP qualified or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Server, UNIX, windows and language certifications would be desirable.
  • Understanding of other toolsets such as PRTG, Solarwinds, Progress WhatsUp Gold, Nagios XI, LogicMonitor would be desirable.

THE ROLE

As a Network Capacity Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. As a Network Capacity Engineer, you’ll have a critical role in supporting the contract to manage and operate Skynet, the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) military satellite communications system.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the responsibility for supporting the Skynet service delivery by evaluating our networks to ensure that they continue to meet current and future data traffic demands.

  • Monitor and report the status of our Networks, Collaborating closely with the Skynet Engineering team.
  • Develop effective reporting tools and methodologies necessary to monitor network capacity as well as effectively support the stakeholder’s decision-making.
  • Generate reports to establish ongoing network integrity, capacity pinch-points and fault trend analysis.
  • Work in partnership with Supply Chain Management and directly with vendors to obtain the best pricing, billing, and service level availability for additional network elements.
  • Work with the delivery teams across Defence Digital to understand the linkages between the Skynet ecosystem and other operational and fixed networks, including limitations and planning considerations.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the onsite and 2 days working from home.
