Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure stability, integrity, and efficient operation by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Network Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues with multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices, and network management systems. The ideal candidate is eager to expand their networking expertise and thrive in a collaborative environment that maintains and advances network stability and performance. This Network Engineer will also mentor and provide guidance to the Systems Engineer staff.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

· Must be well-versed in advanced engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices, and network management systems.
· Hands-on proficiency with routers, switches, and access points. Excellent Layer2/3 network troubleshooting skills.
· Superior communications and customer service skills, demonstrated both in writing and verbally. Works well with a small team, listens actively, seeks understanding, and enjoys direct customer interaction.

· Advanced knowledge and experience with IP, DHCP, and VLAN configurations.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

DESIRED SKILLS:

· Understanding and experience with virtual and software-defined networks.

  • Cisco experience preferred, extended to hardware and software diagnostic tools such as Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) software, Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE)

· Experience with cloud networking and wireless technology

  • Knowledge of SD-WAN services, BGP protocol routing, and data center Cisco EVPN
  • Experience with Infoblox DDI solutions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum of 5 years’ specialized experience as a Network Engineer. BS or BA in a related quantitative field, or equivalent combination of education and additional specialized relevant work experience.
· DOJ Public Trust or must be eligible to clear. (TS or Secret can qualify for reciprocity)
· One or more of the Cisco certs listed (must be active): CCNA/CCNP required. CCIE plus. VMware VCP NSX-T preferred.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Troubleshoot network performance issues. Analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions. 
  • Monitor and respond to complex technical problems across hardware, software, and carrier facilities/circuits. Facilitate vendor support service teams to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance and rapid resolution of issues. 
  • Provide overall data center networking support and configuration in an enterprise environment, to include network domain services such as DHCP, DNS, and VLAN configuration.
  • Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical team members, ensuring seamless communication.
  • Conduct design reviews and contribute to the development of scalable network architectures.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement firewall strategies, ensuring robust information security.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation related to network configurations, topologies, inventories, and procedures.
  • Research, introduce, test, and integrate cutting-edge technologies, enhancing our data center environment.
  • Provides technical expertise with agency-specific security best practices and delivers policy-level standards and documentation.
