Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Network Support Technician with strong hands-on experience in network device management, including installation, troubleshooting, and decommissioning. This position is a B2B contract for one year, with work on an on-demand basis. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls, along with experience in providing console access to these devices. The role requires familiarity with enterprise network environments, including datacenters, MDF and IDF closets, and the ability to work independently while following detailed procedures and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Device Management:
  • Perform rack, stack, patch, troubleshoot, and decommission tasks for network devices.
  • Identify and understand the roles of network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points (APs).
  • Provide console access to devices, collaborating with remote engineers via telephonic bridges and screen-sharing software.
  • Execute network device installs and refresh activities, particularly for routers, switches, and APs.
  • Cabling and Connectivity:
  • Handle patch cabling, power cord connections, and closet cable dressing in enterprise campus environments.
  • Ensure reliable and accurate connections, following site visit procedures and protocols meticulously.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
  • Maintain and troubleshoot network and server hardware, including copper and fiber cabling systems.
  • Perform equipment racking and stacking, as well as the installation and removal of field replaceable units (e.g., hard drives, memory, line cards, transceivers).
  • Use network monitoring systems to manage and restore device and database backups.
  • Operational Excellence:
  • Work reliably and punctually in an SLA-driven schedule, adhering to instructions from senior engineers both verbally and in writing.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and client-facing abilities.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, with the ability to work autonomously and solve unexpected problems on the fly.
  • Deliver quality work with attention to detail and accuracy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience in network support or a related field.
  • Strong practical knowledge of network and server hardware and components, including copper and fiber cabling systems.
  • Proficient in equipment racking and stacking, as well as the installation and removal of field replaceable units.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring systems, troubleshooting, and testing of network connectivity.
  • Knowledge of out-of-band management tools such as iLO and Drac systems.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with major OEM portfolios, including Cisco, HP/Dell/IBM, Juniper, Bluecoat, Radware, Checkpoint, etc.
  • Understanding of network equipment and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and WLAN components.
  • Awareness of Active Directory, Exchange, and Apple OS environments is a plus.
  • Education:
  • Technical college degree in computer science or a comparable field.
  • Certifications:
  • Expected to have or work towards certifications, including:
  • CompTIA A+ Certification
  • CompTIA Network+ and/or CCNA (preferred)
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification in desktop area
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification
