SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience working as a neuropsychologist (needs registration)
- Prior experience in neuropsychology research
- Prior experience in assessing patients with neurological / neuroinflammatory conditions.
- A demonstrated awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy and information handling
- A demonstrated capacity to work in a collegiate manner with other staff in the workplace
- Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in the production of high-level work using software such as Microsoft Office applications and specified University software programs, with the capability and willingness to learn new packages as appropriate
- Experience in designing research projects, compiling and submitting ethics proposals, ordering consumables, describing standard operating procedures and risk assessments for the work covered, conducting the research, training and supervising undergraduate
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
The MSNI/CAR-T-cell Neuropsychologist role provides an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of MS and neuroimmunology clinicians and allied health staff focussed on delivering excellent care to people with MS and Neuroimmunological disorders at Alfred Health, Alfred Brain Program. The Neuropsychologist will work closely with Neuroimmunology Clinic and CAR-T cell Program neurologists. They will join a team of two existing neuropsychologists, a dedicated nurse, research staff and students.
The postholder will consult in in-patient and out-patient settings. They will assess CAR-T-Cell Therapy patients treated at Alfred Health acutely and during recovery. In addition, the appointee will see people with cognitive and behavioural problems relating to central nervous system neuroimmunological disorders such as autoimmune encephalitis. This position will allow for the development of specialist skills in this area. The neuropsychologist’s professional development and peer support will be supported by the Department of Neuropsychology, Alfred Health. There is the potential to combine this position with a dedicated higher research degree or to participate in research activities.
This is a salaried position. Supplemental income to support the unit will be billed using MBS billings for multidisciplinary meetings.
The position is for 3 days per week, with Mondays and Thursdays mandatory. There is an opportunity for flexibility with the timetable for the remaining hours.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Neuropsychological assessment of patients in outpatient settings (in particular in Neuroimmunology and MS clinics).
- Neuropsychological assessment of patients in inpatient settings (neurology ward, and CART patients in haematology ward).
- The majority of patients will generally have the following neuroinflammatory conditions: autoimmune encephalitis, multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cell therapy treated patients (for haematological malignancies) and other central inflammatory and sometimes non-inflammatory neurological conditions.
- The clinician will work with other neuropsychologists, neuropsychology fellows/PhD students, neurology fellows and neurologists, and other multidisciplinary team members.
- The clinician will need to perform cognitive assessments and reporting of outcomes, and forming a neuropsychological opinion of the patient’s condition.
