CAPABILITY - THE SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS REQUIRED TO DO THIS JOB WELL

  • A degree within Human Nutrition, Sports Science, Food Technology or a similar field is preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail, mathematical and IT skills
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work well under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Passion for sports nutrition
  • Good understanding of the target market and good grasp of the ingredients used in the industry

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

The position of New Product Development Technologist is at the front-line of the NPD process, predominantly responsible for hands-on kitchen sample development and taste panels. Brand agnostic, working across both PhD Performance Nutrition and Science in Sport, the NPD Technologist will support our ambition to expand the innovation pipeline across multiple formats, including ready-to-mix powder blends, gels and bars. The role will involve a high degree of project management, owning product development from concept to launch.

  • Salary: Up to £30,000
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9.00am-5.30pm

THE WORK - YOUR 4 MOST IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • New product prototype bench-top development & flavour application on existing products
  • Competitor product analysis & taste panels
  • Project management
  • Production scale-up support

ACCOUNTABILITY – WHAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DELIVERING

  • Formulation and benchtop development of briefed sports nutrition products including ready-to-mix powder blends, gels and bars
  • Sourcing new raw materials from suppliers for product development
  • Organising and leading product taste panels to obtain, analyse and iterate benchtop samples
  • End-to-end ownership of new product development projects, from concept to launch & project management
  • Oversight of factory trials, supporting production scale-up of bench top-made products
  • Keeping up with sports nutrition trends

PERFORMANCE – HOW YOU WILL KNOW YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB

  • Formulations and bench-top samples created timely and in accordance with the brief, demonstrating commercial, regulatory and technical considerations
  • Taste panels run timely and in accordance with process, generating actionable product iteration steps
  • Projects proactively managed from concept to launch in a timely manner according to timelines, stakeholder management and appropriate escalation
    Specific metrics will be set when in role and will be reviewed and built upon regularly. Alongside this, you will be supported with a personal performance plan that will enable you to continue improving your own performance and impact.
