Description:

Overview:

Scottish Ministers are looking to appoint two new Chairs to the following Boards:

  • NHS Dumfries and Galloway
  • NHS Tayside

This is an exciting time to take on these important and challenging leadership roles, which not only offer the opportunity to make a difference in the Board area, but also to contribute to the wider NHS in Scotland. You will play a role in supporting the recovery and reform of our NHS services following the significant impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on society; as well as supporting innovation and developing sustainable services with high quality, person centred, safe and effective care firmly at the heart of our strategic plans.
You will be accountable to Scottish Ministers for leading the Board, comprising non-executive and executive members, which will improve, sustain and protect the health of people across the local population. These are demanding but fulfilling roles, and if you think you have what it takes, we would like to hear from you.
You can find out more about NHS Dumfries and Galloway by
visiting:

You can find out more about NHS Tayside by visiting:
NHS Tayside (scot.nhs.uk)

Remuneration and time commitment: The annual remuneration for these roles is:

  • NHS Dumfries and Galloway £33,351 (under review, non-pensionable)
  • NHS Tayside £35,790 (under review, non-pensionable)

The time commitment for both roles is three days per week. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
Location: The Chair would be expected to be physically at Board Headquarters (NHS Dumfries and Galloway – Dumfries; NHS Tayside – Dundee) on a regular basis and be available to undertake site visits to healthcare facilities and attend meetings held elsewhere in the Board area. Work commitments, Board and governance committees may be in a mix of virtual, hybrid and physical settings. Regular meetings with other NHS Board Chairs and the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care are held six times per year.

Assessment Process: Assessment will happen in two stages. The first stage will be your written application. The panel will consider the evidence provided at this application stage and the applicants who most closely meet the requirements being sought will be invited to the final assessment stage. The final stage of assessment will have various elements, comprising of:

  • work skills in action exercise – a situational role-play
  • verbal presentation on a topic that will be notified to you in advance; and
  • a structured interview with both competency and values-based questions.

The work skills in action exercise (role play) will take place w/c 2 September 2024 and will be held virtually via MS Teams. Interviews will be held on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 September 2024 in St Andrew’s House, Edinburgh. If any of these dates would prove to be difficult for you, please email Sarah.Webster@gov.scot and we can explore what potential flexibility might be available.

NHS Scotland’s values are at the heart of everything that this organisation does. These values are: care and compassion; dignity and respect; openness, honesty and responsibility; and, quality and teamwork and guide the work of the Board in all that it does.
