Description:

Team Odds is looking for a night shift lamber to assist the livestock team through lambing season. We are looking for assistance from 1st April for around 4 weeks however we are also open to candidates who may wish to work a shorter or longer period. We are looking for night shift cover for up to 5 days per week and again, we are interested in candidates who may be interested in more or less days per week.
The Lambing Assistant supports the farm team during lambing season by assisting in the care and management of ewes (female sheep) and newborn lambs. The role involves working closely with farm staff to ensure the well-being of both the animals and the farm’s operations. Duties may include monitoring pregnant ewes, assisting with deliveries, providing aftercare for lambs, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities:

Assist with Lambing:
o Help with the delivery of lambs, including assisting ewes during difficult births.
o Monitor and assist with the care of newborn lambs, ensuring they are feeding properly.
o Ensure lambs are kept warm and safe, especially in cold conditions.
Animal Health and Welfare:
o Monitor the health of both ewes and lambs, identifying any signs of distress or illness.
o Assist with the administration of medications or treatments under supervision.
o Ensure proper identification of lambs, such as tagging or ear marking.
Hygiene and Farm Maintenance:
o Maintain clean and safe environments for lambing, including ensuring pens are well-kept and disinfected.
o Help with feeding and watering of the ewes and lambs as needed.
o Assist with managing bedding and keeping lambing areas comfortable for animals.
Support and Communication:
o Work closely with the farm manager and other team members to ensure smooth operations during lambing season.
o Maintain accurate records of lambing events and any issues encountered.
Other Duties:
o Assist with the general farm chores, such as feeding, checking fencing, and moving animals as required.
o Assist in any emergency situations such as assisting with the delivery of lambs that require immediate care.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Experience in animal care or farming is preferred but not required.
· Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends, as lambing can be unpredictable.
· Physical stamina to handle demanding tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
· Good attention to detail and ability to monitor the health and well-being of animals.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Work Environment:
· The role is indoors and outdoors, often in all weather conditions, with a focus on animal welfare.
· This is a seasonal position during lambing season.
· Night shift work is required, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
