Description:

Job Summary As a UTC Senior Nurse, you will be considered a key person in day-to-day clinical leadership and expertise within the department. You will be working as part of a team within your sphere of competency in adiverse, multi-skilled teamthat includes GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Physician Associates, Paediatric ANPs, Emergency Practitioners and Live Well Coaches. On each shift you will be expected to act as a shift leader, coordinate the working team, stream patients from the front door and work collaboratively with a wide range of local specialists. With links to both VTS and Greenwich University, you will have access to a range of CPD courses including Advanced and Emergency Practitioner courses.

We work closely with the ICS, ICB, Local Trust and various other local shareholders to provide opportunities tolearn, innovate and contribute new ideas. We are looking for full and part time Nurses on a permanent salaried basis.The service is 365 days per year, 7 days a week. This role will be working nights.

  • Recent post registration experience in clinical assessment - Evidence of professional updating - Up-to-date Basic Life Support Certification in Adult and Paediatric - Minimum of 2 years post qualifying experience - Understanding of patient flow. - Up to date BLS / ILS - Up to date Safeguarding Adults and children - A Proven ability to assess patients - Ensure that patients with time-critical and time-sensitive illness or injury are prioritised accordingly - Ability to demonstrate effective management and leadership skills - Team player, able to use own initiative - Can demonstrate the Organisational values. - Ability to work well under pressure - Ability to handle/manage difficult situations - Excellent communication skills -Be able to use tools such as NEWS scores in the assessment of patients - Work within clinical guidelines/algorithm to support clinical decision making Communication and Relationship Skills - Demonstrate excellent communication skills when working with the internal team as well as external, particularly our practices and the hospital trust. - Be able to identify and take into consideration barriers to understanding and employ appropriate methods to ensure effective communication particularly where barriers are clinical in nature.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and carers - Be aware of the procedures to follow if concerned regarding the protection of children. - Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others. - Hold good relationship building skills to develop strong relationships with key individuals within practices and the local healthcare system - Have the ability to successfully make appropriate in hospital specialty referrals. Analytical and Judgmental Skills - Implement care plans as prescribed.
  • Be able to discuss with patients and carers the range of possible treatment/ management options and their implications before treatment decisions are made. - Be responsible for monitoring health, safety and security of self, the team and others and promote best practice in the clinical area. - Identify clinical issues and incidents within the service that reduce the quality of care within the specialist service bringing any issues to the attention of the management team. - Take part in activities to counter these to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care.
  • Ensure that high standards of care are given and maintained and act when standards are not being met. Planning and Organisational Skills - Plan, organise and prioritise own daily workload. - Recognise, prevent, and diffuse potential areas of conflict and where required take a key role in the management of the outcome. - To exercise good personal time management, punctuality, and consistent reliable attendance.

Physical Skills - Demonstrate competence in the use of all clinical equipment used in the overall care of patients within the scope of service. - Demonstrate competence in diagnostic skills such as ECGs and venepuncture/cannulation. - Demonstrate clinical treatment skills such as Plaster of Paris, Suturing, Dressings, and a range of medicine administration. - Have competent computer / keyboard skills including ability to utilise software programmes required to provide the service.

Patient/Client Care - Establish effective communication with patients and carers / relatives. - Ensure that appropriate action is taken to protect vulnerable patients and that they can access/receive the appropriate care. - Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others. - Promote peoples equality, diversity, and rights.

  • Identify clinical issues and incidents within the service that reduce the quality of care bringing any issues to the attention of the Clinical Lead. - Take part in activities to counter these to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care. - The post holder is responsible for always ensuring the safety of patients and promoting a safety culture through the effective management of risk. Responsibilities for Policy and Service Development - Contribute and influence policy making and clinical guidelines internally and externally, necessary to support the service.
  • Act as an ambassador and role model for Greenwich Health. Responsibilities for Finance - Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources. - Ensure all clinical equipment used are well maintained and cleansed as required. Responsibilities for HR - Maintain active status on relevant professional registers.
  • Act always in accordance with professional code of conduct and guiding documents, Health Care Standards. - Maintain a professional portfolio. - To take responsibility for own continuous self-development, undertaking any education and training opportunities identified as necessary for role to remain eligible for professional registration including mandatory training. - Adhere to Company Policy & Procedure.
  • Assist managers in the development of strategies for professional development in keeping with staff competence appraisal, service developments and professional requirements. - Attend all mandatory training relevant for the post. - Attend and actively participate in an annual personal development review and undertake relevant activities to meet the training and development objectives as identified in the performance review. Responsibility for Information Resources - Maintain confidential and comprehensive patient records in accordance with your professional body.
  • Continually monitor standards of care through bench marking and using the tools provided. - Participate in collection of patient satisfaction surveys for the service as required. Research and Development - Takes responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance, including identifying own development needs and maintain own portfolio in accordance with re-registration requirements. - Support the clinical lead in ensuring the clinical environment is conducive to effective learning.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of relevant research issues and trends within the scope of practice and professional area. - Take responsibility for personal development and education and Personal Development Plan objectives. - Participate in Clinical Supervision for self and others and utilise reflective practice techniques.
