Basic Function: The Health & Safety Services- Security Representative (non-permanent) staff will assist with the daily operations of the Health & Safety Services Branch. The position assists in providing protection of all Zoo assets, the safety of staff and public, while providing customer assistance as required. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of a recognized law enforcement program at a post-secondary institute, or have an equivalent amount of training and related experience.
- Must possess a valid Ontario Security Guard licence issued under (PSISA).
- Must possess a valid Standard (or Emergency) First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR (level “C") Certification.
- Must possess a Full G Driver’s licence in the Province of Ontario, with a good driving record.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems, including Microsoft Office 365.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills
- Must have a working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities:
- Monitors range of visitors and provide crowd control.
- Provides access control for guests exiting and for re-entry on to zoo property.
- Directs traffic in the parking lots.
- Checks visitor admissions tickets for validity.
- Communicates general information and assist visitors as required.
- Monitors the daily operations and keeps the Supervisor informed of all activities.
- Documents shift activities in assigned memo book/notebook.
- Responds to emergencies as directed.
- Assists the full-time/permanent staff as directed.
- Prepares written reports on any incidents directly involved in.
- Performs mobile and foot patrol.
- Performs vehicle escorts as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
