Description:
The Nurse Associate is a new professional role as registered and recorded by the NMC and is accountable for their practice. The Nursing Associate will have developed and maintained knowledge, skills and competencies related through completion of the nationally recognised Nursing Associate training programme. This includes working in variety of care settings and delivery of person-centred care across all the fields of nursing. The aim of the role is to bridge the gap between health and care assistants and Registered Nurses; complementing the Registered Nurse role and working under an appropriate level of supervision from the Registered Nurse.
Working as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team. The Nurse Associate will: Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the parameters of the Nursing Associate role, reporting back to the Registered Nurse on a regular basis. Practice in community settings (e.g. care home visits to delivery clinical care, office-based patient phone calls), and will be equipped with the specific knowledge, skills and NMC proficiencies required for the role.
Ensure that the rights, needs and dignities of individuals and their families are met by providing appropriate programmes of care. Demonstrate effective communication skills. Demonstrate good communication, initiative, organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to work flexibly in a team setting. Give and receive sensitive information, use motivational skills, negotiation skills, offer an empathetic approach and demonstrate reassurance skills.
Work in a solution- focused way as directed by the Registered Nurse. Promote holistic healthcare and work in partnership with other agencies. Take responsibility for continuing clinical competence using evidence based practice and research, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace. Participate in health promotion initiatives, in line with local and national guidelines, public health priorities and safeguarding responsibilities.
Support the development of the care pathways required. Work in an inner city with a rich and varied ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic climate. Area Nottingham City boundaries Key Responsibilities The following list is indicative as tasks and responsibilities will vary depending on the care setting within the home and clinical areas the Nursing Associate is working in as well as evolving with experience and competence.
The Nursing Associate will: Follow a competency-based induction and training pathway supported by a supervisor. Undertake home visiting programmes to deliver care, following competence- based training and supervision. Work in a variety of settings including care homes, clients homes and health premises across Nottingham City. Organise and prioritise own workload under the supervision of senior members of the team.
Use appropriate evidenced-based patient assessment tools. Deliver evidence-based programmes of care adhering to standard operating procedures and pathways of care. To work within CityCare policy and procedure, in line with the NMC Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates, NMC Code and NICE Guidance. Demonstrate good communication, initiative, organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to work flexibly in a team setting.
Attend team / allocation meetings. Provide and receive routine information, orally, in writing or electronically in line with Nottingham CityCare policy and abiding by legal requirements. Ensure clear, accurate and up to date recording of information on SystmOne as per local record keeping policy. Maintain accurate diary in accordance with lone working policy and adhere to mobile working guidance.
Work in partnership with local partners across the Nottingham Childrens partnership statutory and voluntary agencies. Access and participate in supervision. Identify and take appropriate action/make appropriate referrals in any situation where there may be vulnerability, safeguarding or health concerns Conduct oneself in a corporate and professional manner maintaining confidentiality at all times including compliance with the City Care dress code/uniform policy Attend essential mandatory and appropriate training courses and meetings thus keeping professional development current. Ensure practice is evidence based to ensure high quality, effective health care.
Undertake preceptorship and clinical supervision as per policy. Promote equality, diversity and the rights of patients; public and colleagues, treating all with dignity and respect at all times Achieve commissioned targets and have an understanding of key performance indicators and service delivery Identify hazards and act accordingly to promote the health and safety of patients, the public and staff in the health care environment in line with the policies of the organisation. This includes adhering to infection control guidelines Participate in research, audit and public engagement activities to ensure appropriate safe and evidence-based practice is maintained. Contribute to effective working in a changing environment as services develop and to undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required within the remit of the knowledge and skills framework of the role.
