EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Licensed as a RN in the District of Columbia.
  • Seven (7) years’ clinical experience in healthcare setting/organization.
  • Relevant experience and expertise in care of physical health care.
  • Experience working with consumers with serious mental illness.
  • Experience developing training manuals and training staff.
  • Driving is required. Must have valid local license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform Lead RN functions.
  • Train all nursing staff and ensure ongoing compliance of practices and procedures through regular quality assurance activities such as record reviews, review of practices in clinics and programs such as storage of medications and direct observation nursing practices.
  • Facilitate monthly meetings with all nursing staff to conduct training, review compliance with procedures and develop collaborative relationships across programs.
  • Provide individual and group medication/somatic services which may include but are not limited to:
  • Supervision and administration of medications including giving IM injections.
  • Ensuring all consumers have vitals completed at least quarterly.
  • Completing comprehensive Nursing Assessments for all new consumers.
  • Providing medication education to both individuals and groups including benefits of medication adherence, potential side effects and symptom and medication self-management.
  • Administration of the AIMS (Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale) and BPRS (Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale).
  • Serve as the central point of contact for consumers coordinating their care across various healthcare providers, community resources and support services.
  • Ensure ongoing communication with consumers’ treatment teams regarding treatment recommendations and/or concerns with medication adherence. Monitor and adjust care with consumers to optimize consumer’s outcomes. Collaborate with psychiatrists, support workers, counselors and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated patient-centered care.
  • Assist with obtaining medication authorizations as needed.
  • Provide an average of 5 billable hours per day for every working day (Holidays, sick, personal and vacation days excluded). A billable hour requires delivery of a required service followed by accurate and comprehensive documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Document all services in the electronic health record the same day a service is provided.
  • Supervise Medical Assistant who will take vitals, provide injections, prep charts, perform blood draws, schedule appointments, etc.
  • Provide education to consumers and their families regarding their mental health conditions, treatment options, medication management and self-care strategies. Offer empathetic support and guidance throughout the treatment process.
