Job Title: Nurse Practitioner – Gastroenterology Physician Practice

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients in a gastroenterology (GI) clinic. The Nurse Practitioner will work closely with the healthcare team to deliver high-quality care, including conducting assessments, diagnosing gastrointestinal conditions, and creating personalized treatment plans. The role also involves educating patients on health maintenance, preventive care, and the management of both routine and complex GI cases, while ensuring compliance with medical protocols and standards.

EDUCATION:

  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the state of South Carolina.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years of experience in a gastroenterology setting or similar healthcare environment, preferred.
  • Experience with patient management, diagnostic testing, and treatment planning in the field of gastroenterology.
  • Experience with performing or assisting in procedures such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, or other GI-related diagnostic or therapeutic interventions is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to and supports the organization’s mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrates support for the Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures that affect specific job functions; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Conducts thorough assessments of patients, including physical examinations, medical histories, and diagnostic testing related to gastrointestinal health.
  • Diagnoses and treats a variety of GI conditions, including acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, liver disease, and gastrointestinal cancers.
  • Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, including medication management, lifestyle recommendations, and follow-up care.
  • Orders, interprets, and follows up on diagnostic tests such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, and imaging studies, as well as laboratory results related to GI conditions.
  • Provides education and counseling to patients regarding health maintenance, dietary modifications, preventive care, and treatment options for gastrointestinal issues.
  • Collaborates with gastroenterologists and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care and coordination.
  • Performs routine and complex procedures as required by the scope of practice and clinic protocols, including, but not limited to, performing endoscopic procedures or assisting in procedures.
  • Manages patient records and ensures accurate documentation of care provided, maintaining compliance with medical and legal standards.
  • Addresses patient concerns and questions, providing compassionate, professional care in a supportive environment.
  • Stays current with medical advancements, best practices, and gastroenterology guidelines.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed.
