Description:

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

As a Nurse Practitioner with the Road to Recovery Program, you will play a vital role as part of the Addictions Medicine team in providing comprehensive and wholistic care to patients seeking recovery focused services. In this role, you will provide primary/acute care for a cohort of patients accessing acute substance use stabilization beds located at St. Paul’s Hospital with a focus on their non-addiction related medical issues, including chronic disease management.

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will:

  • Provide professional guidance to other healthcare professionals, working autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team including addiction medicine focused physicians, nurses, and allied health providers. Your role will involve making referrals to specialists, allied health providers, physicians and other resources as necessary.
  • Collaborate with patients and healthcare professionals to identify trends and patterns that impact the community’s health and participate in evidence-based strategies to improve healthcare services. Your involvement in policy-making activities will also influence healthcare practices.
  • Have protected time (approximately 30 percent of the FTE) to fulfill the other non-clinical NP domains of practice.

Qualifications / Skills and Education:

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.
  • Recent relevant clinical nursing experience or interest in substance use care.
  • Comfort and ability to support addiction medicine care needs of patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to trauma informed care and culturally safe care.
  • Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
  • Completion of the Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Level C.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Salary Range is $74.45-$81.90 per hour, depending on NP experience. Reimbursement is also available upon successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for NPs who have not yet completed the exam.
  • A comprehensive health benefits package including dental, vision, and life insurance as well as pension.
  • Dedicated time for non-clinical work: Approximately 30 percent of time will be protected for non-clinical duties.
  • Innovative approach: Join our pioneering program, providing a comprehensive continuum of care and help to fill the gaps in the existing system.
  • Meaningful impact: Your dedication and expertise will directly impact the lives of individuals struggling with addiction, providing them with the support and care they need on their road to recovery.
  • Dynamic interdisciplinary environment: Collaborate with a world-class team of healthcare professionals who share the same passion and commitment to excellence.
  • Growth opportunities: We welcome individuals at all stages of their career, offering opportunities for professional development and growth. Dedicated time (3-6 months) will be given for specialized training with internal medicine and the substance use teams. Shadowing opportunities with the different PHC substance use teams are also available.
  • State-of-the-art facilities: Be part of the exciting growth of the program. The Road to Recovery Program will eventually house 100 beds. The first phase focused on stabilization, which opened in the fall of 2023 at St. Paul’s Hospital.
  • The unit will then transition to the state-of-the-art NEW St. Paul’s Hospital on the Jim Pattison Medical Campus when it opens in 2027.
  • Join the Road to Recovery Initiative and become part of this first-in-Canada model of treatment that has the power to transform addiction care nationwide.
