NEUROLOGY NURSE PRACTITIONER -NEUROMUSCULAR PROGRAM

Nurse practitioners play a vital role in all aspects of care and are essential members of our interprofessional care teams. Nurse Practitioners are essential to our success in:

We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join the Division of Neurology, Neuromuscular Program. The Nurse Practitioner will provide leadership and promote inter-professional excellence and collaboration in child and family-centred care within the main role components of expert practice, education, consultation, and leadership in a dynamic clinical environment.
The Nurse Practitioner with the Neuromuscular Program holds a key role in the care and management of children and families diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease, Myasthenia Gravis, and other pediatric neuromuscular disorders.

Responsibilities:

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO

  • Integrate nursing and medical skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice
  • Provide comprehensive health care to patients and their families (inpatient and outpatient) who are diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder
  • Foster inter-professional collaboration in the coordination of plans of care with other teams within SickKids as well as community resources
  • Assume a leadership role in advancing the quality of clinical practice and the provision of care in the neuromuscular program
  • Administer novel therapies to patients with rare diseases through Ommaya reservoirs, or lumbar punctures and lead gene therapy administration
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to support the development of nursing and Interprofessional colleagues
  • Identify, integrate, and evaluate research-based innovations for improving patient care including participation in clinical trials for rare diseases and supporting the Neuromuscular research team with patient care
  • Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge using formal and informal channels
  • Conduct environmental assessments (home, community, school) and partner with children/families to navigate their illness trajectory
  • Identify, link with, and collaborate with services and resources in the community
  • Demonstrate commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
  • Provide relevant health education to children and families that is based on their needs, learning styles and stage of development in particular around a rare disease and novel therapies
