Founded in 2010, The Ground Up (TGU) is Houston s fastest growing landscape supply company. We manufacture mulches & soils and carry a large selection of base, gravels, and sand products. TGU also operates three re-wholesale nurseries in the Houston Metro Area.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Nursery Associate assists customers with all questions related to our Nursery products, while working in a fast-paced environment, independently or as part of a team. The ideal candidate must be reliable, flexible, organized, detail oriented and a positive team player.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 1 year of experience working outdoors
- Able to read and write legibly
- Must possess basic mathematical skills; a strong eye for detail; and good verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work required shift hours/days, including Monday to Friday and Saturdays
- Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work, and a valid State issued driver’s license
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Wholesale experience in a garden center, nursery, or farming
- Experience or education in the horticulture, agriculture or related field
Responsibilities:
- Assist customers with floral, nursery, garden, plant and landscape purchases
- Load customer vehicles with plants and bulk material including gravel, bases, and stones
- Operate a skid steer, forklift, and loader (optional: operator duties for selected candidates)
- Operate company trucks with attached utility trailer and mini dump (driving duties for selected candidates)
- Sweep, rake, shovel, care for plants (prune, deadhead, hand-water, control weeds)
- Load and unload delivery trucks, trailers, and semis
- Maintain neat and safe nursery areas
- Assist with deliveries as needed
- Other duties as needed or requested
