Description:

As part of the Clinical Quality, Health Information Privacy Portfolio (CQ-HIP), the Nursing Informatics Specialist, under the direction of their reporting Director, is responsible for advancing the effective use of digital health information systems in clinical practice. This role will provide expertise and leadership to improve the health care provider experience, patient/client experience, service delivery and clinical health information at the individual and management level through digitally enabled clinical systems.
The Nursing Informatics Specialist will work with members of the CQ-HIP team and the business divisions team to support the development of digitally enabled tools/systems and incorporate evidence based clinical guidelines and decisions support tools. This will include incorporating clinical content into the clinical information system and support clinicians towards informatics best practice through education/training, providing consultation and advice with the focus of optimizing patient/client care, outcomes and data-driven decision making.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Graduate of a recognized degree nursing program.
  • Completed or working towards Health Science/Health Informatics degree/certificate.
  • Current registration/licensing with the provincial regulating body of residence.

    Experience

  • Five to ten years of Nursing Informatics work related experience, with direct experience in workflow process redesign, end user experience process re-engineering and/or workflow mapping is a must have

  • Five to ten years working in progressive leadership roles in a healthcare/community care environment.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in project management methodology
  • Sound knowledge and experience in ensuring the integrity and security of health care information.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical information systems and digitally enabled decision support tools

  • Well-developed presentation and communication skills including verbal, written and sound listening.
  • Travel to branch locations throughout Canada as required.
  • French is an asset but not a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Fosters an organization wide safety culture in the effective use of digital health in clinical practice by ensuring evidence-based practices, system quality, information/data quality and user satisfaction
  • Engages nurses, allied health and paraprofessionals in the design/development & optimization of clinical documentation and evidence-based decision support tools to support interprofessional clinical practices and integration into workflow
  • Communicate clinical relevance for system design and reporting requirements for information at point of care and management level.
  • Incorporates user centered design processes
  • Ensure end users’ needs are met
  • Designs, develops and facilitates clinical system education and informatics competencies for nurses, allied health, paraprofessionals and clinical management.
  • Develops clinical use case scenarios to inform User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Works collaboratively with the Clinical Manager to evaluate the effective clinical use and adoption of CIS/digital health into practice.
  • Identifies clinical requirements/data reporting requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with others to identify opportunities for improving the end user experience.
  • Participates and contributes to project planning activities and works with project team in the design and implementation of changes to clinical/business processes and workflow.
  • Ensures individual, technical & organizational readiness and escalates to appropriate decision maker.
  • Acts as a liaison between the cross functional business leads, IT, Clinical teams, and CQ-HIP.
  • Champions change and motivates/influences others by building awareness, communicating, and engaging with clinicians and their leaders.
  • Supports the advancement of virtual health care practices.
  • Participates in project planning, leads/facilitate working groups and committees.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to informatics and digital health in home and community care.
  • All other duties as required.
