Responsibilities:
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Director, Natural Resource Analysis, the Nutrient Management Specialist is responsible for all aspects of agricultural soil and nutrient management and the implications to our natural resources.
The Nutrient Management Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of the Agricultural Operation Practice Act (AOPA) and the Soil Conservation Act (SCA) and ensuring seamless implementation of the legislations. This position also supports other policies across the Government of Alberta (GoA) that interact with nutrients and soil. This position must work extensively with:
- The Farmer’s Advocate Office to implement parts 0.1 and 1 of the AOPA.
- The Natural Resources Conservation Board to implement Part 2 of the AOPA.
- The Agricultural Fieldmen and Agricultural Services Board who implement the SCA.
This position provides leadership, technical, and scientific expertise regarding nutrient management to the GoA, livestock, and crop industry, as well as a wide spectrum of other government and non-government groups and organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Some of the role responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing leadership and coordination of planning, development, and effective delivery of agri-environmental legislation, Agricultural Operation Practices Act (AOPA) and Soil Conservation Act (SCA).
- Providing technical information and analysis for GoA policies and programs, relating to nutrients, manure, livestock, crop, and soil management.
- Network and partnership development.
- Providing effective coordination, preparation, and delivery of information in a variety of formats and mediums for Executive Leadership, stakeholders, and clients.
- Effective financial and human resource management.
- Identifying and filling information gaps related to nutrient, manure, soil, crop, and livestock management.
This position applies a diverse knowledge base across multi disciplines to address complex scenarios. The disciplines including soil physics, soil chemistry, biology, watershed management, economics, animal sciences, experimental design and analysis, policy analysis and adult education.
