Description:
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Successful completion of a CSNM accredited program in Food Services Administration and Technology or a Bachelors degree in Nutrition from a University recognized in Dietetics
- One year previous experience in clinical nutrition or food services area preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Well-organized and efficient work routine
- Demonstrated compliance with hospital infection prevention and control practices
- Demonstrated working knowledge of sterile technique including working within a laminar flow hood preferred
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the NICU Patient Care Manager, the NICU Nutrition technician is responsible for the daily preparation and delivery of all enteral nutrition for infants in the NICU as well as providing some nutrition to the infants in the low risk unit. Primary responsibilities include processing and delivering nutrition support i.e. expressed breast milk, donor milk or formula to patients in accordance with the patient’s diet order; ensuring that feeds are safely prepared and meets guidelines for the preparation of all oral feeds; and maintaining professional competency required for professional practice. Responsibilities also include inventory control for the milk preparation area, thorough completion of all required documentation and other duties as assigned.
The NICU Nutrition Technician maintains hospital standards and practices around handling and preparation of expressed breastmilk, donor milk or formula and participates in compliance and quality performance improvement efforts to reflect the Hospital’s vision and mission while promoting and maintaining good public relations with Hospital staff.
The candidate will also participate in clinical nutrition training programs i.e. Dietetic interns and Nutrition Technician students, etc.
