We are in search of an enthusiastic Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Advisor to join our dedicated team. As an OHS Advisor, you will become an integral part of our mission to enhance health and safety standards in continuing care, which includes long-term care and home and community health support. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Director of Workplace Health and Safety Programs and the OHS Manager, focusing on promoting and improving health and safety practices through resource development and data-driven analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Completion of an occupational health and safety designation is preferred, or equivalent education, training, and experience in health and safety.
- Experience: Ideally, 1-2 years of experience working in occupational health and safety. Experience in the healthcare or continuing care sector is a valuable asset.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Excellent working knowledge of provincial health and safety regulations, with a commitment to staying current with developments.
- Mobility: Possession of a driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset but not a requirement.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency in video conferencing platforms like Zoom and Teams.
- Data Management: Ability to manage data using tools such as WorkSafeBC Tableau, Excel, and Learning Management Systems (LMS), along with the capability to write reports for strategic planning.
- Project Management: Project management skills are a plus (if you don’t have these, we’ll teach you!)
- Software Competence: Competence in MS Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, SharePoint, and Planner.
- Independence: A strong desire and ability to work independently, taking initiative when necessary.

Responsibilities:
- Champion OHS: Embrace the core mission of SafeCare BC by promoting and advancing OHS-related support for our valued members.
- Resource Enhancement: Assess, evaluate, and update existing OHS resources and support mechanisms provided to the sector.
- Data Insight: Play a vital role in OHS data collection, trend analysis, and contact database management.
- Collaborative Projects: Coordinate projects with the OHS team or other SafeCare BC teams to ensure seamless support and collaboration.
- Training Support: Assist in the delivery of training and ensuring that healthcare workers receive the necessary knowledge to work safely.
- Regulatory Expertise: Stay informed about and research relevant regulations, such as WCA, OHSR, and other BC regulatory requirements.
- Strategic Initiatives: Contribute to key initiatives like resource development, outreach, and compliance awareness programs.
- Regular Reporting: Provide regular updates to SafeCare BC’s Director of Workplace Health and Safety Programs, senior management team, and external stakeholders.
- Brand Representation: Uphold the positive image and reputation of SafeCare BC in all interactions.
- Flexibility: Be prepared to take on other duties as required, demonstrating your adaptability and dedication to the team’s success.
