Purpose of the Role:

  • To provide a comprehensive and confidential Occupational Health Service to all staff at Freightliner Group, promoting and maintaining the highest levels of health in all colleagues.
  • To advise, support and liaise with Human Resources, management and colleagues with regards to occupational health and safety requirements, identifying health trends and supporting issue specific improvement frameworks where gaps are identified relating to, but not limited to, occupational health hazards, health surveillance, drugs and alcohol, and medical fitness-to-work requirements.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To act as a professional point of contact for line managers in relation to health, wellbeing and the workplace, including supporting the identification of potential future strategy agenda items, occupational health hazards, changes in legislation, or other business risks/opportunities;
  • Providing expert technical advice and guidance on the medical aspects of occupational hygiene, health, wellbeing, and safety across specific business areas;
  • Provide an effective case management service within Freightliner Group including detailed assessment and medical reports summarising recommendations in accordance with evidence based best practice and the Equality Act;
  • Provide full periodic, on-employment or pre-placement health screening activities, including Drugs and Alcohol testing, in line with industry and Freightliner Group standards;
  • Conduct and manage health surveillance programmes for appropriate staff depending on their job role including screening for, but not limited to, hearing, vision, respiratory sensitisers in accordance with employee group where there is a risk of exposure to noise, respiratory risks, hand arm vibration, night work, COSHH, manual handling, DSE and pressure;
  • Management and maintenance of confidential occupational health records;
  • Deliver presentations / training sessions to promote health and wellbeing and occupational health risks as required;
  • Work within the scope and in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Code of Conduct standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives and nursing associates, and the Access to Medical Records Act (1988).
  • Any other reasonable activities identified to support business needs within an occupational health requirement.

Personal Specification:

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC Register.
  • Post graduate qualification or significant experience in occupational health with a strong case management background;
  • Training / experience in undertaking Drug and Alcohol testing, Audiometry, Spirometry and HAVS.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office software;
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Law and its application to Occupational Health;

Desirable

  • Knowledge of, and experience of working to, ORR Standards;
  • Previous experience of working within a previous rail environment or other relevant highly regulated and safety environment;
  • Experience of balancing the demands of high volume and changing priority workload including pre-booked appointments / clinics along with service development work, planning health surveillance programmes, respond to urgent enquiries and plan and implement clinical audits;
